Nu följer lite info på engelska:

Fazenda Santa Alina is located in São Sebastião de Grama, a municipality in the state of São Paulo near the southern
part of Minas Gerais. The region is known for abundant sunlight during the day and mild temperatures during the
night. It is known to be home to some of the best Brazilian coffees.

At altitudes between 1,100 and 1,400 m.a.s.l., the farm covers over 895 hectares in a predominantly hilly area, of
which 239 hectares are used for coffee cultivation. The average annual production of 5,500 bags comes mainly from
Microlots. Therefore, over the decades, Fazenda Santa Alina has consistently managed to grow some of the region’s
outstanding specialty coffees.

The coffees grown range from Yellow Bourbon, Mundo Novo and Red Bourbon to Catuai 2SL, Yellow Catuai 62 and
Red Catuai 144, all of which are processed either natural or pulped natural.

History

In 1907, Fazenda Santa Alina was purchased by brothers Joaquim Bernardes da Silva Dias and Lindopho de Caravalho
Dias and has been in the family ever since.

During the 1930s, Joaquim Bernardes de Caravalho took over the farm and increased coffee production, growing
mainly red bourbon trees. In 1935, Joaquim Bernardes da Silva Dias died. A year later, Joaquim Bernardes da Silva II
was born, bearing the same name as his late grandfather

The 1960s were marked by significant expansion. There was a lot of investment in the farm, new tractors and farm
equipment were purchased, and a general improvement of the agricultural infrastructure was made.

Lucia Maria da Silva Dias (nickname: Tuca Dias) left the farm at a young age to live in Sao Paulo. There she lived as a
successful architect and initially had no plans to return to the farm. After the death of her grandfather (Joaquim
Bernardes de Caravalho), the family intended to rent out Fazenda Santa Alina and abandon the coffee growing they
had done so passionately since 1907. In 2010, however, Tuca returned to Vale de Grama. Since then, she has
managed the farm with the family’s business partner, Rodrigo Fernandes.

Tuca Dias and Rodrigo have made it their mission to increase the production of high-quality MicroLots and, in
parallel, improve the living standards of local people. To increase coffee quality, Tuca and Rodrigo have taken several
steps. For example, they changed the terracing from the valley to the higher regions of the farm. This skips the night
moisture and early morning dew from lower elevations. In addition, they began to plant the variety

Yellow Bourbon variety to be cultivated. The farm now grows Yellow Bourbon, Mundo Novo and Red Bourbon, as well
as Catuai 2SL, Yellow Catuai 62 and Red Catuai 144.

To improve living and working conditions, Tuca and Rodrigo have changed the farm’s management style from top-
down to bottom-up. This way, workers have more to say and a direct channel to Tuca and Rodrigo. In addition, there

is a lot of investment in employee training. Courses are offered in a wide variety of areas.
